What are Dr. Alter’s qualifications?
Dr. Alter has been in the practice of clinical psychology for more than 30 years. Throughout his decades of practice experience, he has focused on how to help clients transform what happens at the intersection of minds, brains, and bodies. He studies how that creates illness and distress, and how those factors can be redirected to produce whole and lasting health: the practice of lifestyle medicine. Helping individuals suffering from digestive disorders has been a major focus of his clinical work. He has a longstanding consulting relationship with one of the largest gastroenterology practices in the country. For Dr. Alter, becoming healthy isn’t just a therapeutic goal; it is a way of living, and he has worked to help each client discover their unique path to that health-supporting lifestyle.
Dr. Alter obtained his PhD from the Rosalind Franklin School of Medicine and Science in Chicago, Illinois. For the past 17 years, he has worked as the clinical director of Partners in Healing of Minneapolis, an integrative medicine practice he co-founded. Dr. Alter is an active teacher and workshop leader offering a variety of professional training opportunities for other health professionals around the country and overseas. He is a published author (Staying Sharp: 9 Keys to a Youthful Brain through Modern Science and Ageless Wisdom; Simon & Schuster) and contributor of articles to peer-reviewed science journals.
What research supports this program?
The number of research articles dealing with the causes and treatment of IBS is huge and growing. The results of these efforts fall into several categories.
First, there is no single identifiable cause of IBS. But, regardless of the cause, there are various stressors that cause a heightened sensitivity and increased reactivity. Those stressors can be physical (e.g., gluten), microbiomic (e.g., imbalances of gut bacteria), psychological (e.g., stress management struggles, anxiety patterns, or depressive difficulties), behavioral (e.g., poor sleep patterns or eating habits), or historical (e.g., learned emotional and physiological response patterns rooted in past personal trauma).
Second, just as there is no single cause of IBS, there is no single “cure” that is right for everyone. IBS Relief Now incorporates the practices that research studies show work best for the most people and that have the longest-lasting benefits. I have incorporated the work of world renowned researchers such as Douglas Drossman, MD, who has helped us to better understand the factors that generate IBS; Olafur Paulsson, PhD and Peter Whorwell, MD, who have shown us the power of imagery and gut-directed hypnosis in producing long-lasting IBS relief;and Mark Hyman, MD, Elizabeth Lipski, PhD, Raphael Kellman, MD, and David Perlmutter, MD, who have paved the way for increasing our understanding of the gut microbiome, food sensitivities, and the role of healthy nutrition and lifestyle medicine in stabilizing not only digestive functioning but overall lifestyle balance, as well.
If you purchase the IBS Relief Now program, you will regularly receive cutting edge research updates, ensuring that you remain aware of the latest findings and treatment trends in generating digestive wellness and overall lifestyle health.
What are examples of practices found in this course?
The program is organized into eight sessions that include four different resources. Different people learn in different ways. Overcoming unhealthy habits and creating new, health-sustaining habits is not easy. That’s why IBS Relief Now packs each of the eight sessions with two different types of learning: fact-based learning designed to increase your informational knowledge base and experiential learning practices that help you rewire your brain and recharge your life skills mentally, physically, and behaviorally.
The informational learning resources include one engaging and dynamic video lecture and one downloadable info-packed reading for each session that you can dive into at your own pace and review as many times as you would like.
Since personal growth and habit change depend upon experiential learning, each session also includes a guided practice and a set of reflective journal questions that you are invited to use as a personal resource journal to contemplate the changes you are undertaking and to help you cement the new habits and practices into your daily routine.
The experiential practices included in IBS Relief Now involve different forms of proven self-regulation training approaches such as meditations, guided imagery, self-hypnotic sessions, and self-reflective, contemplative practices, all of which play an important role in re-regulating your dysregulated gut and general life.
How much does the program cost?
The 10+ hours of resources that comprise the IBS Relief Now program would normally cost several thousand dollars. However, the program is priced at only $247. This price includes unlimited access to all the material and resources in the program, and also includes free access to additional material you will periodically receive highlighting the latest research on IBS management and offers, specific suggestions, or practices that can help reduce the negative impact of IBS on client’s lives.
Is IBS Relief Now covered by health insurance?
IBS Relief Now is not currently covered by any health insurance plans. It is a private pay program, which is priced at a major discount from what the program would cost in co-pays or co-insurance arrangements.
What happens if I have specific concerns that develop while I am involved in the program? Is there a way for me to reach Dr. Alter?
